When brain death is suspected, physicians report the case to KODA's Organ and Tissue Notification Center, as required by law.

Brain-Death Notification Guide

Purpose

  • Reduces the burden on medical staff regarding organ donation decisions

  • Provides an opportunity to share the gift of life

Contents of Brain-Death Notification

  • Name of the medical institution and the notifier

  • Name, resident registration number, and address of the presumed brain-dead patient

  • Patient's current condition and cause of brain injury

Time of Notification

  • Patients unable to breathe independently or maintain spontaneous respiration

  • Those with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 4 or below

  • Patients clinically assessed as having potential for brain death
